Acura Integra VS Honda Civic: What do you do when there are so many options? We examine the personality, strengths, weaknesses and performance of each.

Many discussions were sparked by the return of the Integra nameplate in the Acura lineup. This Integra is it? Is it worthy of the same reputation as its predecessors? Perhaps most importantly, how does it compare to the Honda Civic on which it is based?

This question was answered by comparing the 2023 Integra with 2022 Civic’s specs, features, and test results. While there are some similarities in the mechanical components of both, there are also important differences in pricing and configurations.

Engine and Transmission

Turbocharged 1.5-liter inline four is the only engine option for the Integra. The Civic is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four engine. However, the turbo engine found in the Civic’s EX and Touring trims can also be found. As both engines produce 200 horsepower and 192 pound feet of torque, the Acura’s tune sounds identical to that of the Si.

The only thing that sets the Integra apart from the Civic are its transmission options. The Civic and Integra both offer a six speed manual transmission. However, the Acura offers a continuously variable auto transmission that combines the 200-hp engine with the continuously variable manual transmission. The Civic Si sedan can only be used in manual mode. The Integra comes standard with an automatic transmission, but the manual can be purchased by adding the A-Spec or Technology packages.

Performance

The Integra and Civic performed well in the various performance tests. The Civic manual reached 60 mph in 7.0 seconds. This is a good pace between the Civic Si 6.8 second sprint, and the Civic Sport Touring manual 7.3 second run.

However, the optional summer tires helped the Civic Si, which is more performance-oriented, to pull away from Acura’s skidpad test. The Civic Si gripped at 0.94 g while the Integra A-Spec managed 0.88 g with its all-season tires. The Civic Si’s brake performance was significantly better than that of the Integra, stopping at 70 mph in 160 feet and Acura’s slower 178 feet.

MPG

The EPA states that the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and continuous variable automatic transmission are the most efficient models of the Civic and Integra. The Civic gets up to 36 mpg when combined, while the Integra can get up to 33 mpg. The manual transmission reduces these figures by a few points.

Features

The equipment lists of the Civic’s higher trims are very similar to the Integra’s. The Acura offers a few additional features that aren’t available on the Civic. These include a head-up display and an ELS premium sound system. All of these features are included in the Technology package. The Integra has adaptive dampers, which aren’t on the Civic. These allow for more control of the suspension when you choose different driving modes.

Price

$8250 is the difference between the Civic’s base price of $23,645 and that of Integra’s base price at $31,895. The Civic you get for that starting price is the LX sedan with minimal equipment and the base engine of 158 horsepower. The Civic EX-L hatchback is a more comparable model and costs $28,345.

The Civic hatchback is available in the fully loaded Sport Touring trim, which costs $31,145 regardless of whether you choose the manual transmission or the automatic. If you add the $2000 ASpec or $3000 Technology package to the Integra, the car’s cost will rise. The Integra starts at $36,895 for the six-speed manual transmission.
