Do you Know Who Created Photoshop?
The original Photoshop software was created by siblings Thomas Knoll (left) and John knoll (right). As a student, Thomas was studying both photography and engineering at the University of Michigan. Thomas was fascinated by photography ever since he was a child and even had access to his father’s darkroom, which allowed him to process film. His father was a professor at a nearby college, providing him with access to an Apple II Plus computer. One day Thomas had an idea that would change how images were created on his father’s laptop. After a few days of hard work, he developed a script that could convert monochromatic images to grayscale. He went from this one script to developing more complicated processes instantly – and he continued to develop even longer after the invention was completed. Thomas’s brother, John, at the time, used to work as a programmer for George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic. The first program Thom designed reached his brother and he encouraged him to turn it into an image editor. With Thomas and John working on the project together, Tom & John made further improvements to their application and released the first iteration of Photoshop in 1988 under the original name “Image Pro.”
Who Owns Photoshop?
At first, Photoshop was made by the company Image Pro. However, that wasn’t always the case. That is because when people started using it for image editing purposes in 1990, the two executives Thomas and John were looking to partner with larger companies to improve distribution of their software. Adobe released their first major program in 1990–and it was a big hit. This early success led to many spin-offs and collaborations with other companies working on similar software.
