After many months of anticipation and years of planning, we finally have the 16 host cities and stadiums to host the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The main takeaways are that The 11 U.S. cities were selected from the pool of candidates and three cities from Mexico along with two Canadian cities joined the race in addition.

The List:

  • Canada: Vancouver, Toronto
  • Mexico: Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey

The tournament was given by both the North American and CONCACAF rivals four years ago, and they fought against a formidable bid from Morocco it will be an interesting event for many reasons. It’s one of the only World Cup hosted by more than one country since 2002 which was the first time Japan along with South Korea shared the honors and will be one of the only World Cup with three hosts. Mexico will be the first host nation to host or to co-host three consecutive times (following the years 1970 and 1986) and the U.S. will be the second-time host (following 1994) in addition to it being Canada’s first hosting the tournament for the males as it was the host at the World Women’s Championship in 2015.

Additionally, this could be the only World Cup to boast 48 qualified teams after FIFA’s decision for 2017 that sought to increase the field to 48 teams instead of 32 which had been the norm for the tournament since France 1998. The new format will see 16 teams from three groups will play and the two top teams in each group progress to a Round of 32. This will be a single elimination right up until the end.

The total number of games will be played at the 20 venues including the U.S. hosting 60 games including the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final — while Mexico and Canada each play 10 games. The venues are split into three areas: EAST WEST, and CENTRAL. The venues were officially announced in New York City on Thursday.

Apart from that issue, the home of two NFL teams captivates the eyes with its unique double-sided circular video screen that is suspended above. There’s always a plethora of celebrities hanging out in the stands. And in 2022 the Rams were the first NFL team to take home the Super Bowl in its home stadium (a feat achieved by Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the year prior). Tampa Bay Buccaneers the year before).
FIFA was able to put on Hollywood glitter over its history in selecting SoFi — a stadium not listed in the initial list of venues instead of the legendary Rose Bowl in nearby Pasadena that hosted the 1994 men’s final as well as that of the girls’ final for 1999. It’s hard to argue with the choice when you consider the conveniences and access to SoFi’s facilities.

FIFA World Cup 2026

SoFi will play its first soccer match in August. 3 for a doubleheader MLS-Liga MX which will feature Chivas against LA Galaxy and Club America against LAFC.

Mexico has played here many times. Lionel Messi become Argentina’s all-time goal-scorer in an overwhelming 4-0 win over the USMNT in the 2015 Copa America Centenario, and the only Manchester City Manchester United game that was not in England was played here in 2017. It was the first city to pioneer trails that lead west across Oregon, California, and Santa Fe and was an area that escaped the prohibition laws in the 1920s and became the top destination for music and entertainment. The teams in the sports aren’t terrible as well: the KC Royals won the baseball World Series in 2015, and the NFL’s Chiefs have been able to win back-to-back AFC Championships (2019, 2020) and the 2019 Super Bowl thanks to the performance by their quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Its MLS squad, Sporting Kansas City, was a founding member of the league in the year 1996. The team has won the distinction of winning two MLS Cups (2000 and 2013) along with Four U.S. Open Cups.

However, with transparent materials covering the exterior of the stadium as well as the 22,664-square foot “Window to the City,” the world outside isn’t too far away.

FIFA World Cup 2026

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is one of the largest stadiums that are home to an MLS team, however that hasn’t deterred the energy when it comes to games of Atlanta United, a team that attracted more than 100,000 before the outbreak and continues to be the best for attendance average in MLS. With a roof over all seating, with a retractable roof that covers playing fields, it is awash on it’s own in terms of sound and energy. In 2018, the MLS Cup, which Atlanta United took home is a testimony to the energetic atmosphere that the stadium is capable of delivering.

Major events that are held here: Where do we start? In recent seasons, Super Bowl 53 in 2019 The College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018, and MLS Cup 2018 are just three major games that take place in the dome. Mercedes-Benz Stadium also hosted the MLS All-Star Game in the year 2018 which saw the MLS team going down penalty shootouts to Italian giants Juventus and also a few of Mexico friendlies at the beginning of 2019.

The rich and diverse history of Miami has many things to do with soccer and Miami being the “Magic City” having a team in nearly every professional soccer league that has sprung up within the U.S., starting with the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the 1960s and on into Major League Soccer in the 2020s and the introduction to David Beckham’s Inter Miami CF (currently playing in the nearby Ft. Lauderdale).

To keep up with the glitz and speed of professional sporting events, Hard Rock Stadium is freshly reopened after the $500 million renovation that features a modern roof covering a large portion of the seating from the scorching South Florida sun, and massive video screens that provide every spectator with an unobstructed picture at the game.

Major events held in the city: It is not an event-free zone. It has hosted major tournaments in a variety of sports. Hard Rock Stadium hosted a Clasico match between La Liga the two biggest teams Real Madrid and Barcelona in 2017. FIFA World Cup 2026

A city called Brotherly Love is bringing the heat as an official World Cup venue: Lincoln Financial Field is an all-purpose stadium that has proven it can handle events of the highest caliber. It’s also a zero waste facility featuring 11,000 solar panels and 14 micro wind turbines that help offset and surpass the energy consumed by the stadium over the entire year of Eagles games. 9 tons of waste food has been composted since the year 2016, in addition to redirecting 100% of the material from the landfill each year.

Major events that are held at the stadium: The very first occasion in the history of the stadium was soccer! Manchester United and Barcelona played just two years after the ground was broken at South Philly and the city’s association with soccer has only increased since then it was chosen to host the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup final both being held at the stadium. The NHL’s Stadium Series, in which professional hockey is played in specially-designed arenas that are outdoors throughout the country, began in 2019 with 69,000 people lining up to watch their home team, the Philadelphia Flyers defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3. It’s also a frequent stop for famous musicians such as Taylor Swift (four times), Beyonce (three times), and Coldplay (twice) among the most notable artists to grab cheesesteaks on their way across the East Coast.

NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY (East Rutherford, New Jersey)

  • Dimensions of the field of play are 105 meters by 38 meters

  • Game of the Round World Cup games proposed in bid opening game, final

MetLife is just 12 years old but it has already had a lot of experience hosting soccer tournaments of world-class. There are United States, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, Mexico, Ecuador and Colombia have played friendly matches there it was also the site of the International Champions Cup, the Gold Cup, and the Copa America Centenario were all played at the Meadowlands too. The Copa played its semifinals and finals at the Meadowlands and the 82,026 audience for the final match of the 2016 event was the largest in the history of the competition.

Despite being located situated in New Jersey, MetLife is accessible from the center of New York City: A bus ride to New York City’s Port Authority in midtown Manhattan can take between 40 and 50 minutes. This convenience is why the stadium is home to fifty large events each year and sees more than two million visitors pass through the gates each year.

Major events that are held at the stadium: The venue has been through a lot since the very first time it hosted an event that was the Lacrosse Big City Classic, back in April of 2010. In addition to being home to both the Jets and Giants as well as hosting XFL matches (New York Guardians against. Tampa Bay Vipers) as well as The 2014 Super Bowl, two Wrestlemanias (2013 2019, 2013) as well as a plethora of international soccer games: Mexico and the United States. Ecuador was the first in 2010, however, in 2016 the Copa America Centenario final was one of the most infamous events because Lionel Messi opted to retire from Argentina duty following a loss to Chile with penalties. (Don’t be concerned, Messi came back within a short time.)

BOSTON (Foxborough, Massachusetts)

  • Venue: Gillette Stadium, 1 Patriot Place, Foxborough, MA 02035
  • Capacity: 70,000
  • When did it first open when it opened? 2002
  • Dimensions of the field of play are 105 meters by The field of play dimensions are 68 meters x
  • Teams from the Pro League that are represented here include: New England Revolution (MLS), New England Patriots (NFL)
  • The Round World Cup games proposed in the bid Finale

Just 40 minutes to the south of Boston, Gillette Stadium is not a stranger to the World Cup. Gillette Stadium’s previous home, Foxboro Stadium — the venue of which is now used for parking in the event of Revs or Pats football games was the venue for six games in the 1994 tournament, as well as additional five games during the USWNT’s campaign to win the 1999 World Cup title. The current version of the stadium Gillette was the venue for World Cup qualifiers, Gold Cups as well as The Copa America Centenario.

The stadium is now in its 20th season, Gillette lacks much of the modernity and glamour of numerous other stadiums hosting an event in 2026 However, it went through changes to the network in 2016 to increase the availability of Wi-Fi and also its food and drink options on main concourses are being revamped to ensure that fans’ palates are as satisfying like they are in stadiums that are increasingly serving gourmet food. The Revolution averaged only 18,861 attendance in the last season, however, the Patriots have had a sold-out streak since 1994, and have one of the most atmospheric home-field advantages of the NFL.

Major events that are hosted at Gillette: Gillette has been a long-time soccer venue over its 20 years of being open and, of course, we’re not only discussing it being the home of the New England Revolution. In the past, from CONCACAF Gold Cup games to women’s World Cup games, Gillette’s always been a fixture for both women’s and male’s national teams. It’s an important East Coast tour stop for the biggest names in music acts, and it’s also the venue for Premier League Lacrosse and more important NFL matches (thanks for the Patriot’s incredible performance) more than you can count.

Venues in Mexico

Three of the Mexico venues that are scheduled to host were picked by FIFA in its announcement on Thursday.

  • Venue Name: Estadio Azteca
  • Capacity: 87,523
  • When did it first open When did it open?
  • Field of play dimensions: 105 M x 68 m
  • Pro teams who play in Mexico: Mexico’s national team, Club America, Cruz Azul
  • The Round World Cup games proposed in the bid opening match

The name alone evokes stories from some of the biggest sports legends. Pele took home the third time and his ultimate World Cup with Brazil here in the year 1970. Argentina Legend Diego Maradona scored his “Hand of God” goal (as well as a similarly impressive solo goal known as”the “Goal of the Century”) against England in the 1986 quarterfinals and then defeated West Germany in the thrilling final. This is the one stadium in the world that has been able to host games in three male World Cup editions, and also played host for the first edition of the 1971 World Cup prior to the women’s World Cup.

Recent improvements mostly used to host NFL events have decreased the capacity of the stadium -between 114,000 and approximately 87,000. These renovations have certainly slowed down the once noisy ambiance ( just ask any USMNT player or fan of a particular time). It is the home of El Tri and serves two Liga MX giants in Club America and Cruz Azul. Simply put, it is one of soccer’s greatest cathedrals.

Major events held in the Aztecs: Do we need more? Alongside the above, the legendary Azteca has also hosted Michael Jackson, Menudo, U2, and Shakira and also 9 NFL games (1994-2019) with another scheduled for 2022, between two teams: the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals.

MONTERREY (Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon)

  • Venue Name: Estadio BBVA, Av Pablo Livas 2011, Col. La Pastora, 67140 Guadalupe, NL, Mexico
  • Capacity: 53,460
  • When did it first open when? 2015.
  • Dimensions of the field of play Dimensions: 105 mx 68 M
  • Pro teams who are represented here: Monterrey
  • Round of 16 World Cup games proposed in bid Round of 16

Mexico’s new soccer stadium is now an absolute must-see for every Liga MX fan. Since its opening in 2015, it is now the home of an extremely well-funded Monterrey stadium, which has seen an era of new prosperity since the move. Despite being awarded the LEED green design certification and having all the trappings of a modern facility but it has not yet hosted the Mexico men’s national team game. It will however host the CONCACAF W Championship in July which will feature the top teams in the region’s women’s league as well as teams from the U.S. women’s national team.

Major events held in this city: In addition to the planned summer W Championship, Justin Bieber performed here last year on his Purpose World Tour.

GUADALAJARA (Zapopan, Jalisco)

  • Venue Name: Estadio Akron
  • Capacity: 48,071
  • When did it first open when? 2010.
  • Dimensions of the field of play Dimensions: 105 mx 68 M
  • The teams here that are Pro: Chivas
  • Round of 16 World Cup games proposed in bid Round of 16

The Chivas Stadium was home to Sir Alex Ferguson and “Chicharito” was introduced. In 2010 Chivas, Chivas played host to Manchester United in a summer game to officially open the stadium, Javier Hernandez played the first half for the home team before formally transferring to Chivas’ Premier League side for the second half.

The distinctive architecture of the club evokes the erupting volcano that is surrounded by a ring of smoke. Mexico’s national football team has played just once in this venue however, it hosted the most recent regional male Olympic qualifying tournament. It is a lively and intimate venue for Mexico’s most-watched club.

Major events that are held here: Despite not having been the preferred venue to host El Tri, it did host eight matches during the 2010 U-17 World Cup as well as being the closing and opening ceremony venue during the 2010 Pan American Games, hosting all soccer matches during the tournament to top it off.

Of the three cities that are in contention for the Canadian contingent, There was only one city that Edmonton was not chosen by FIFA as a site for the tournament.

  • Venue Name: BC Place, 777 Pacific Blvd, Vancouver, BC V6B 4Y8
  • Capacity: 54,600
  • When did it first open when it opened: 1983
  • Dimensions of the playfield are 107mx The field of play dimensions are 69m x 107m.
  • Pro teams who are represented here include: Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS), BC Lions (CFL)
  • Round of 16 World Cup games proposed in bid Round of 16

The venue has held the World Cup final before: It’s the place where you can watch the U.S. women’s national team take home at the 2016 World Cup on the back of a stunning Carli Lloyd hat trick to beat Japan by 5-2. BC Place is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver close to bars and restaurants where World Cup attendees will take over in 2015. In 2015. Robson Street was a sea of white, red, and blue as they walked toward the stadium.
