History Of Fifa World Cup Host Countries
Since the first World Cup in 1930, seventeen counties have been listed as the world cup host countries in the competition’s twenty-one editions. The World Cup title has been given every four years (except in 1942 and 1946 due to World War II). Initially, the organization provided hosting rights to nations during FIFA congress sessions. Given the three-week boat travel between South America and Europe, the two football powerhouses at the time, the choice of venue was contentious in the early tournaments.
Brazil and Germany both submitted bids to host
Brazil and Germany both submitted bids to host the 1942 World Cup; however, no decision was made to select who would host. Columbia was chosen to host the tournament for the 1986 World Cup however, it was pulled four years before the event’s start date. Mexico was eventually the host of the tournament. In 2002 the first time, the event was held by two nations, Japan along with South Korea.
