AMD will increase both its memory bandwidth and the memory capacity of its flagship GPU. This is the big news. We haven’t even begun to discuss the Infinity Cache, which is a monstrous amount. This rumor comes from an alleged insider @Greymon55 via Twitter.This time, they are advised to increase the memory bus width for AMD’s upcoming GPUs.

These are called Navi 31, 32, 33 and 33 and they go in descending order, with Navi 31 being RX AMD RDNA3.According to reports, the high-end chip will feature an extra-large 384-bit memory bus (for AMD), which is a major upgrade over the RX 6900XT’s 284-bit bus.

Only Nvidia has this wide a memory bus in its current generation of GPUs. It uses it on its RTX3080 12GB cards as well as other products in the product stack. AMD RDNA3 was able to use a smaller 256-bit bus because it uses Infinity Cache to supplement it.

t is rumored that it will equip it with 24GB of DDR6 due to the increased memory bus. This is an increase of 16GB in the RX 6900/50XT. This could allow AMD to compete with the RTX 4090 and would signal that AMD is finished playing around. Although it has not been able to match Nvidia’s RTX3090/Ti 24-GB, it appears determined to fight RDNA3.

AMD will increase Navi 31’s Infinity Cache in addition to increasing the memory bus and adding more memory. It is believed that AMD will include 64MB infinity cache on each package’s six 4GB memory module packages, as shown in the mockup.

It remains to be determined if this will be 3D stacked as on the Ryzen7 5800X3D, or not. As previously reported , this assumes that the package contains seven chaplets. This would give the GPU an astonishing 384MB L3 cache. This is a significant upgrade to the 128MB of L3 cache in the RX6950 XT.

This would make Navi 31 a powerful 4K gaming machine with plenty of memory bandwidth to support high-resolution, Ray-traced gaming. There is still speculation as to whether the 6+1 chiplet design will become the final Navi 31 package.

There have been many rumors about the design of the seven chaplets. It is clear that AMD took a radical approach to Navi 31 rather than an evolutionary approach, as Nvidia did with Ada Lovelace. Nvidia will continue to use a monolithic device this time.

AMD is following a different route with a multichip module (MCM). We are all curious as to which design will be the best. It could be a while before all the cards are on board. Nvidia is expected to launch its RTX 40 series in mid July.

However, AMD is not expected to launch AMD RDNA3 anytime soon. Rumors’ suggest it will launch near its Zen 4 CPUs which are due in July.
