Nicholas David Pope, better known as Pope Nick, is an English professional goalie who is currently playing for the Premier League team, Burnley. He is also among 23 players on the England National Team that has participated in the 2018 World Cup.

On May 24, 2011, Charlton Athletic signed Pope after Scouts were able to spot him in a 2-1 win against Billericay Town. He was then called to Charlton for a test. After impressing the staff in a test and interview, he was offered an agreement for two years after a deal was reached with the clubs regarding the compensation package, which comprised Charlton being a host for the Suffolk team in a preseason match prior to 2013’s season. Pope signed a two-year deal with Charlton on February 7, 2012. Pope made Charlton and his professional debut on May 4th, 2013, as a substitute in the 71st minute for David Button in Charlton’s 4-1 home win in the relegation battle against Bristol City in the Championship.

Pope signed a three-year contract for three years with Charlton in September 2013 saying the fact that “it’s a huge club, so having a stable long-term future is something you seek for as a young player.” Pope signed an extension of his contract for four years with Charlton on June 5, 2014, which ensured his continued involvement at the club until June 2018.

Pope has joined Isthmian League Premier Division side Harrow Borough on a loan agreement in August of 2011 that was in effect until 17 September 2011. Pope kept three clean sheets and snuffed out two penalty kicks over 19 games during his time there.

Pope was scheduled to sign with Kettering Town of the Conference Premier in December of 2011, but the transfer fell through because Kettering was subject to an embargo on transfers. Pope joined Conference Premier club Aldershot Town on a one-month loan on September 26, 2013. Pope became a member of League Two side York City for a one-month loan on 21 November 2013. He was removed by Charlton after just two games. Pope returned to York as a player on the 16th of January for the remaining season of 2013-14 and kept 16 clean sheets over the course of 24 matches.
