Nvidia and AMD graphics cards are again within reach
The GPU Shortage Is Over: For more than 2 years now, people have needed to be exceptionally lucky, skilled and perseverant to buy an Nvidia AMD graphics card for MSRP. It’s been posted liveblogs as well as live tweeted the dreadful experience of trying to purchase an GPU on the internet, fighting against an army of bots to navigate the shaky websites of merchants who weren’t able to provide enough reasons to bother.

However, on the other hand, yesterday I did something I never imagined. I walked into Best Buy’s site just eight hours after the store’s weekly sale and picked up the RX 3070 Ti Founders Edition at $599 MSRP.
I also had a $499 RTX 3070 Founders Edition in my cart also. These finds were not just a coincidence: both of the GPUs were available at the time we checked again today. The 3070 FE is present as I type these words. Also, the 3070 Ti. AMD.com currently has the Radeon RX 6750 XT, 6900 XT and 6950 XT for sale for MSRP.Nvidia RTX 3080 average eBay sales price, June 2021 to June 2022.Image: eBay
I went to eBay to look up the figures that I’ve been creating since December, 2020 — to present the actual street value of the GPU. It’s true that this week is the time when that the most well-known graphics cards hit MSRPs on secondhand markets also. The RTX 3080 is currently priced about $700, which is the exact amount Nvidia initially claimed it would be priced at.

In the last 6 months, cost of a brand new GPU has been cut by half. Nearly every GPU that we have tracked has fallen by more than 50% on eBay from January, and 30% of it since April.

It was also one of Nvidia’s more popular and most bang for your buck card – they are the RTX 3060 Ti RTX 3070, as well as RTX 3080 which saw the most drastic drops. Of these cards it’s the 3060 Ti that’s the sole GPU that isn’t able to be found for less than MSRP, on average. In contrast the average AMD card is 100 less than MSRP.
The market for secondhand GPUs appears to be normalizing the prices of Nvidia and AMD’s higher-priced GPUs. It is possible to purchase a used 6900 XT for $300 less than the MSRP of $999. I have seen buyers on eBay get the average price of $318 and $466 as well as $540 for Nvidia’s3080, 3090 and 3090 Ti according to.

Finally, MSRP. Jan 2022, GPU number:
I believe it’s safe to declare that the massive GPU problem is now over.
However, should you buy one? It’s a more difficult decision due to the forces forcing demand and supply to meet don’t all work in your favor.
Why you might or might not purchase a GPU Now
The first step is to be clear first: the processors that power these GPUs are just two years old. As of October, 2020, 500 could be a good cost on an RTX 3070 but would it be an excellent value in July 2022 when new models are coming out? It is possible that the RTX 40 series and AMD’s RDNA 3 are both expected in the fall of this year and could provide substantial performance gains.

This is especially true when you’re considering some of these cards Nvidia and AMD launched later in the GPU shortage, but with a more expensive MSRP than their performance suggests.
